ollie and the oohlas played an acoustic set as part of the casa de ultragrrrl series last weekend and we all drunkenly belted out “small parts” along with them…check the vid on sarah’s new buzznet…(warning: this video may cause you to yell "SPRRRRIIINGBREAAAK!" for no apparent reason)

happy birthday sarah from can't face the falling! they’re hitting the stage tonight for a hometown show in providence with the dear hunter, therefore i am, wax on radio, and the cadence so stop by and say HI if you are in the area. oh and it’s at the living room so a toilet seat protector and some hand sanitizer might not be a bad gift idea………

ps: did anyone else order a 2SMRT 4U ring? because I totes got mine and I kinda love it….

congrats to ultragrrrl for winning PAPER magazine’s “best dj” honors two years running. she also took home the “best party” award for her thursday night, stolen transmission bash which she hosts with cohort karenplusone. check out pics of this ‘award winning’ bash from this past week featuring guest dj me! and come look cute on the dance floor with us every thursday at the annex……

ALSO! this saturday, SUPER funny girl amy sedaris is going to be at the fred flare holiday store (can I hype this place any harder?) promoting the pastsy pouch she designed along with her new book, "i like you: hospitality under the influence". it's still up for debate which is cuter, amy or the pouch……WE LIKE YOU TOO, AMY! (ps: add strangers with candy to your netflix que, like NOW, if you missed out on the now defunct comedy show)

why you'll love her: when i asked jess where she draws inspiration for her work she replied with great confidence, "her butt"…….

oh what, you actually need more reasons to love her? jeez, tough crowd...

her illustrations create a world where "normal" starts to take on a whole new meaning with quirky characters and bold colors that keep her art fun and intriguing to the viewer. throw in a dash…no, make that a bucket full of humor, irony and sarcastic tones and you’ve got yourself some fantastic odd ball art. one of my favorite facets of her work are the cheeky tees recently printed by threadless ("wipe me on your butt!") and if these don't make you laugh your ass off, check your pulse..... get*into*her

and on a more serious note, jess offered up some career advice that i think is down right perfect:

"Everyone has a different opinion about the art you create and sometimes people will tell you that opinion weather it is useful to you or not. It's a great thing to learn how to differentiate between an honest critique and someone's opinion. You have to be able to realize that although the artwork you create is yours, other people are going to see it however they choose."
